Back to the Future

The future is here.. remember when we were young and we thought of the year 2000 as a world of flying cars and hover boards (I'm dating myself here with a BTTF reference..)? Today on the New York Times, an article shows a glimpse into that future - Interactive Furniture(Photo Courtesy of nytimes.com)

Courtesy of Microsoft, who in case you didn't know bought our company for $6BN, one can now interact with a coffee table viewing your very own photos on glass. Not only can you touch manage this screen, it is smart enough to move objects around when coffee mugs, etc are placed on the surface. It's a whole new computing system in the form of a table. It is also WiFi enabled so bring your hi tech camera near it and it instantly downloads your recent photos. Now that's cool. That's the future and it's now.

EDIT: Can Google get any sicker?? New Street Views on Google Maps... Ready.. Set.. STALK

Going... Going... GREEN

The whole world has gone GREEN! - which is amazing... Many companies are "going green" lately by pledging to conduct business with less CO2 emissions, waste less energy and by providing shuttle services for employees so they don't all have to drive. While many companies are going green, the biggest shocker was Walmart! Can't help but think this is just a great PR ploy to change their brand perception from "slave-driving corporate (middle) America" to "New, Cool, ... GREEN".

It's crazy how hip GREEN is now. From celebrities to big business, if you're GREEN, you're cool. Although lots of companies may be going green for the wrong reasons (Corporate Reputation, Pre-Emptive Positioning) one company that really makes going GREEN believable is Yahoo! I've always been a big fan of Yahoo! and I really love everything they do. Their new GREEN initiative is pretty darn cool. I pledged today to waste ~4 tons less CO2 this year... What will you pledge?

Let's all go GREEN and save the damn world please... I want to be able to snowboard this winter season... :T

"My" Spaces

Now that I am trying to be an active member for Web 2.0.. I decided that I needed a good forum for a "My" space. A number of publishers these days (Yahoo, New York Times, iGoogle)offer this type of customizable one-stop pages. Some are still in Beta but others are becoming quite usefull in having all your favorite content one page (including blog feeds like mine!). My iGoogle page below:

Seasons of Change

Microsoft just bought our company. Read it here. Not much is going to change probably... but people in the office area already making lists and notations of how it's going to suck working for Microsoft. I honestly don't have any qualms about it, just don't take away my balcony or my free Starbucks. Then we are cool. One developer cleverly made this new logo:

It's going to be a tumultuous two weeks so I'm using the blog to zen myself out. Today on the LIRR (yes, I'll be taking the Long Island Railroad again..) I realized how much I miss Italy. I don't say this just because I miss the travel, but I really miss the food, the people, the land, etc.

I always stand in awe of those people that just drop everything and live in Europe for a few years. I just don't have the fortitude to do something like that. I guess more than anything it's a financial thing. Florence is the only place you can get this steak:

Bistecca Fiorentina... Tuscan cows that are raised specifically for this amazing steak that still makes me cry because it was so good.

The F- Words

"Flickr", "Facebook" and "Flock"

In attempts to really build out my blogging, I joined Flickr and uploaded some pictures from my work desktop to it and created a badge (see to your right the flash unit with small tiles ---->)

I've been using Facebook for most, if not all of my social networking needs. I never liked MySpace because of all the clutter and the mass histeria behind the huge Newscorp purchase. (I'm all about the underdog). Now Newscorp is announcing that they will be purchasing photobucket -- an online photo hosting site.

Also I've claimed my blog on Tecnhnorati to boost some traffic to my site. Hopefully this works. Anyone know some other good ways to boost your blog?

And for the Pièce de résistance: Flock! A new web browser designed for the Web 2.0 world. I just downloaded today so I'm still feeling it out but it's already growing on me. See screenshot of my post desktop below. You can drag and drop your pictures from Flickr and add it to any html field...

So now when I comment on other blogs and forums I can add photos straight from my Flickr albums... Let's start flocking blogging!

It has begun

It's hard to keep up with blogging because.. well.. there's just not enough time in the day. Especially when your day's time is sucked up by numbing nothingness and your nights are sold to the TV/TiVo demon.

I plan to use this blog as a necessary outlet of my 20-something angst. It's quite different from teenage angst where it's not overrun by hormones or illogical pursuits of truth and happiness. It's quite different.

The 20-something angst (to me) is defined by self actualization, discovering motivations, fulfilling higher needs and of course a complete audit of your life up till the present.

This is going to be very different from Xanga. Xanga is a microcosm of your 1st and 2nd degree of separation friends that comment and give eprops and use for updates (or more cynically put stalking) on others' lives. I intend this blog to be really about me and possibly a sentence or two of wisdom that might inspire a young one to invent and create the next gen "it" product.

This blog will probably be very unpopular and boring... basically me during 5th grade lunch... so I hope to entice the visually motivated readers with pictures and videos of my life, travels, and random things I see and must record forever.

This being one of them... took me 4 seconds to recover from this seeing this sunset on the Punta Cana Beach
